The Edagberi community in Nigeria’s oil-rich Rivers State has decried the slow cleanup operation to clear the spillage at the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC)'[s] Adibawa Oil Field. Ambrose Kofi Osuolo, the Secretary of the Edagberi Community Development Committee (CDC)...[has] appealed to the state and federal governments to prevail on Shell to expedite action on the recovery of the spilled crude and proceed with remedying the impact on the environment...SPDC’s Head of Media however maintained that exercise was still in progress...“SPDC stopped the leak from Adibawa well 8 as soon as we became aware of the incident and also repaired the well head."
