The Essentials Series: tools to improve working conditions in global supply chains

 The Essentials series are aimed at providing tools to help understand, manage and improve conditions of workers in companies’ global supply chains.  Essentials 1: Introduction to ethical trade 15/09/2016 - 10:00-17:00 The first in our series of four courses outlining the essentials of ethical trading, this workshop will give you a practical understanding of the main issues, ideas and advantages, and explain how to build them into your organisation’s ethical trade strategy.We will define the ETI Base Code and how to use it, as well as looking at different supply chain structures and the responsibilities of supporting workers’ rights. Our trainers are experts in developing and implementing codes of labour practice in global supply chains and will help you with mapping your supply chain, learning how to implement ethical trade and communicating the advantages to different audiences.    Essentials 2: Managing risk: Going beyond audit 06/10/2016 - 10:00-17:00 Our expert trainers will guide you through the methods of introducing and running an ethical trade programme in your organisation. By exploring the realities of a risk-based approach we will help you identify good social auditing practice, as well as looking at other ways to develop ethical supply chains. The workshop will allow you to understand the range of approaches to implementing labour codes of practice and know how to assess risk and prioritise ethical trade activities. Ultimately you will be able to review your organisation’s own ethical trade strategy and identify what you can do to improve it.   Essentials 3: Sustainable change in supply chains 07/07/2016 - 10:00-17:00 10/11/2016 - 10:00-17:00 You will be shown how to recognise the root causes of workplace issues, then develop and monitor SMART improvement programmes to solve them. Our expert trainers will also demonstrate ways to negotiate change with suppliers, using case studies to guide you on the best ways to go about it. This includes prioritising financial and non-financial resources for ethical trade, and how you can access and use them effectively.   Essentials 4: The power of collaboration 29/09/2016 - 10:00-17:00 In the fourth and final of our ‘Essentials of ethical trade’ workshops, we will help you to take a long-term view of your organisation’s ethical trade policy and understand how to extend its reach through collaboration with a range of different partners and groups. We will talk you through some of the more challenging issues you will face when working to improve conditions for workers in global supply chains. Along with reaching and involving workers at all levels of your supply chain, including 'invisible' and marginal workers, we will show you how to integrate ethical trade and the ETI Base Code into core business practices such as purchasing. Our expert trainers will give you guidance on establishing and building better dialogue with key partners, including trade unions, NGOs and local organisations, and the benefits of working with different groups.   Registration: Please follow the link below to register
